Removal of fuel pump .A little help please

Hello people,
I have been putting off removing the fuel pump for a very long time .
Sun is out and here we go.
I have nearly got it off but it seems the the shaft and spline that goes into the cam and timing gear is threaded .
Do i have to remove the timing cover and if so WHAT NEXT?
I would be grateful for any help thanks.

Okay just did a bit of reading and i do need the cover off so my next question is what do i need to take off to access the timing belt cover .
I off out now to see for myself.
since i just remembered that this was supposed to be a scorcher today and youll all be out enjoying yourselves .

From memory:

Aircon belt
Alternator belts x2
Possibly alternator as well for ease of access
Air intake ducting from intercooler at front of engine
Metal vacuum pipe


There are probably other items too. Try the cambelt fact sheet in the members section.

Hi Simon,dont think you need any belts or alternator removed,just the timing cover to gain access to the IP shaft securing nut.

JUST BACK IN FROM A BAD JOB ON A GOOD DAY LOL.
No need to remove much just the gubbins bolted on and i think its the turbo waste gate thingy. the bolts on the cover are a bit fiddley.
Im now looking at what a woodrift key is and what i need it forr. or is it just a nut on the end of the spline thats in the cam cover .

I'm affraid to say i just lost all interest in the auld girl and behaved frightfully bad and i appologise. But SHES once again drawn me back into that place that will be forever known as BONGOFURY.

Im gonna have to buy more tools again.
Ive called it a day for today.
I may try and borrow one, or hire it.
Do you know anywhere to get the seals though i think i need some kind of seal where it enters the cam assembly not the ones on either side of the pump?

Try these people they have supplied loads of peeps with seals for the IP.

In an ideal world the seal which is leaking would be the one on the side which is easy to get at.

There seems to be anecdotal evidence that a favourite culprit is the internal seal between the main pump body and the rear, distributor, section.

This needs pump removal to get at and as you are removing the pump anyway it makes sense to change them all.

I believe that AVA have all the seals, otherwise a local Bosch agent should be able to get them for you.

I ran it on veggy last winter but ran it with too much veg oil and clogged it so had to top up with more diesel and charge the battery, to get it to start. but it started to leak and didnt run right . So i changed the two seals shown in the fact sheet but it seem to be leaking from where it goes into the timing cover between the pump and the back of the cover.
Atleast this is where i think its coming from.
IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE ITS COMING FROM THE SEALS I REPLACED .

That sounds very like the seal I'm talking about.

The fuel drips from the lower set screws.

Yeah ive actually got a replacement pump to put in incase i damaged anything internally when i blocked it. but i wont know untill i get the damn thing off although im nearly there lol.
So there is another seal at the cam assembly which as you say is the one you have to remove the pump to do.
The othere two can be done with the pump in situ .
AND WHAT A JOB THAT WAS . But i was so happy when id installed them only to find it still leaked so i just left the auld girl in a huff.

Remember and mark the auld pump position before you remove it.

This was what put me off to begin with, the diesel timing .
Im not sure if it will be aswell to just use the same pump as i can mark them together although i thought that the slot on the end of the shaft of the pump where its tappered would only go in the one way .
IM TOTALLY FEELING MY WAY WITH THIS AS I GO ALONG SO TO SPEAK .
