stop the beeping

the beeping when im in reverse and when ileave the keys in and open the door, is so loud its driving me insane, does any body know where these noise makers are located? i just want to make them a bit quieter not remove them, if thats possible?

I believe the beeper is behind the panel to the right of your right foot. Just disconnect it I believe (others here will know for sure). I did it on my last Bongo & came out to a flat battery about a week later after I left the lights on all night!! Still connected on the current Bongo . . .

You can stop the bleeping for the Key and Doors easy enough by just pulling the plug below apart, as shown, its then very easy to push back together in the future if needed - but it won't make the beep any quieter for the AFT, Reversing or lights left on!;

the main "beeper" is in the drivers footwell..... Blue coloured box..... I have kept mine but disconnected the Key beep...

Just thought I'd let you know another satisfied customer following this advice! After I had an alarm fitted that fades the interior light up, even with the doors shut the beeping continues as it sees the light on as a door open (that's what I'm assuming although that could be misguided) (and yes the doors are all closed and switches working!).

i just cut the blue wire

or was it the red wire
i cant remember

that goes into the beeper box in the drivers foot well, do a search and a bit of reading im sure there is a thread with a photo in ...I also did the one under the steering wheel

both were easy

if you struggle finding it let me know and ill take a pic for you

Thanks jutwit, I just wanted to stop the door and key beeps, I did look at the big blue one, however thought I'd be in the dog house if I ran the battery down leaving the lights on

The bleep is so strident that, once it leaves the sounder, it is remarkably difficult to reduce by any form of padding etc.

I decided to strangle it at source by poking a broken match stick into the hole in the sounder. It is hard to believe that so much noise can come out of that hole. Although I reduced it by quite a few dBs, plenty of sound also leaks out through the small gap between the back of the sounder and the circuit board.

blue tac also dampens the beeps....

Good idea, Mike. I might try some around the gap.


As automatics and flat batteries are not a good combination it is a good idea to at least keep the 'lights on' warning.

The 'door open/key in' bleep is a pain. It can be killed by partly withdrawing the key but that practice brings with it a very high risk of accidentally fracturing the key at one of its narrower points, especially if you have a lot of other weight on your key ring.

My lights turn off with the ignition so there is no need for the beeper anyway, I don't know if this is standard (probably not )

but worth checking

I have disconnected the white block under the steering column to silence the ignition key in / door open beeps, but all the other lights on / reverse / beeping functions work..

I find it quirky (and not in a good way) that my headlights and brake lights still work even with the ignition off ..

On my Toyota, which is the same system I was caught out a couple of times with a low battery even though on checking, no lights had been left on ..

One day after being parked up for a few hours, I was walking back to the car and from some distance away bemused to see the brake lights permanently on ..

Turns out that my old Staffy bull terrier likes to sleep in the drivers foot well ... across the brake pedal ..!!
