Manifold Studs...whining noise..not the studs

Post by Harry » Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:24 pm

Recently had replacement studs fitted + new gasket to cure 'flymo' whine...very successful until yesterday when the whine started again when accellerating.

Garage checked studs..all ok. Boss checked small exhaust pipe under the drivers seat and low and behold the gasket had gone...fitted new gasket and problem solved.

yippee..no more flymo!

Yep...its a smallish approx 1" dia pipe that runs front to back and passed under 4 thin pipes (to injectors?) along the top right hand side of the engine.

Guess who knows nowt about mechanics????

 H

Ok there is a pipe but not i think an exhaust pipe as in that which lets out exhaust gases at the back. Passed my mot today without comment. Just thought I would tell you! The Bongo sign means happy motoring.

In a way it is, it recirculates some of your exhaust gasses back through the inlet.

Well one of the bolts on the afore mentioned pipe has stripped, and I have found a lack of power on steep inclines  could this be the cause? there is a small amount of oil leaking, and a 'smell' in the bongo, could it be a manifold stud problem also???
