Cylinder head rebuild problem

Post by drhaswell » Fri Aug 07, 2009 6:17 pm

Hello.

My bongo recently suffered a terminal overheating which resulted in a cracked head. (Long story - 700 miles from home and 12 hour recovery).

I have stripped everything down and purchased a replacement head.

I am in the process of transferring bits from my old head to the new which is a bare unit. I have been successful with absolutely everything except the bit shown in the image. It the junction at the front nearside of the head which connects to various hoses including the coolant air bleed pipe. I have no idea how to remove it and don't want to damage something when I am so close to success. Can anyone shed any light on removal technique? Apologies if this has already been covered but I can't find anything by searching. Thanks. David

These may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=27333 & http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 29#p327829 - I think the consensus is to get a new one.

This is probably one of the few relevant posts

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Also make sure you use the proper Mazda head gasket - there have been several problems with the cheap copies not sealing correctly.

Dude I`ve just done this twice. Insert a ratchet extension into big orifice and lever whilst applying slight outwards force. It came out fine and resealed without problems with a little gasket goo.
