Electric Blinds

Hello,

I have made some new curtains for my electric blinds and they fit but the blinds don't roll back up into the top bar section. The motor works and the bottom bar moves up and down. I have followed the instructions on how to take the blinds off and put them back together on the fact sheet and have twisted the spring-loaded bar at the top a few times and I still have saggy bottomed curtains!

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Hi, from your description, the first thing I would be concerned about is that the material you used isn't thicker than the original. (which is fairly thin)

If it is, there may not be enough room around the top roller to accommodate the extra material, so it will jam up in the top housing before rolling up completely.

Especially if you've put a hem on them, which'll effectively double the thickness of material, one of the main reasons I didn't go down the route of replacing mine.
I have been thinking about using some silver backed blackout type material to give better insulation, light blocking & reflecting the heat better, but would need to find some that can be cut without hemming or is made the correct width to start with.

I was thinking that it might be the material too, have put one of the old blinds up and it is doing the same thing! My boyfriend thinks that I have been heavy fisted with it when I pulled the old blinds off originally. I'm wondering if there is any way that I can take the spring loaded unit apart to see if I can re-tension it. Any ideas of how to go about it would be really helpful !

you did actually turn the bar to regain the tension the right way didnt you?, does the blind go up at all even a couple of turns?, or does it just make noise?

I will go have a look on my spare blinds what are in the shed to see if i can see owt tomorrow that may cause the problem, but I think you might have knackered the cog or gear linkage that coneckts the blind roller to the motor

Thank-you for all your advice. I have got the blinds working after re-tensioning the bar and cutting the side hems off and nail-varnishing the sides to stop any fraying. I was going to insert a picture but I am having a techonphbic day coz I can't seem to upload the image! I think its time for a glass of wine!

I got all excited for a minute, thinking that's a good idea, you could have nice pastoral, mountain or marine scenes to look at when the blinds are down. Even perhaps something saucy!
