Cam Shaft Nut on Pulley....really really stubborn? any ideas

Post by draper3000 » Mon May 25, 2009 5:18 pm

Good afternoon..

Trying to get down to replace head gasket and possibly inspect head, and get it pressure tested.

Have got stuck on the pulley wheel for the cam shaft....

Tried spanner + mighty hammering.

T-bar

Other ratchet set....

Are we doing it right....

Lefty loosey on the nut...???

holding the shaft with a large spanner on the inside....

Any tips, advice....

Is the thread normal...

Please help...otherwise we may well be stumped...

There's flats cast onto the camshaft to hold it with a shifter/spanner if I remember................

SUCCESS!!!!

Thankyou for replies...

Had spanner holding flats on shaft, and wedged solidly...
blow lamp was gonna be our next thing.

How we managed it...was getting a 3 ft piece of piping, put the ratchet into that with the big socket....

the van was already up on some ramps...and coming from underneath we managed to eventually get it moving...

So going the normal rotation for a bolt is correct. (Thats the main thing we were really worried about).

and lots and lot and lots of force was needed.

Then after doing a lot of very tough head bolts we are that much closer...

Still cant lift the top of the head off though....need to investigate further...can't think what else is attached now though??

Do you mean the head itself :? If so, after checking there is absolutely nothing holding it, a very short blip on the starter should shift it.

Presumably with head bolts on but slackened just a tad, so the head can't pop off or owt. Or am I being over cautious! :?
