Poor acceleration

Post by ummmm » Sun May 10, 2009 7:40 pm

Hi we have a 2.5TD bongo that seems to have very poor acceleration. We have had it for over a year now and recently the acceleration seems to be poor up until the turbo kicks in at 2000 revs. This is not every time but evry couple of days or so. It doesn't seem to matter if the Bongo is hot or cold or wet or dry. But sometimes when we hit a moderate hill at very low speed or pulling out at junctions it seems as if it has no ooommppp...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

I would be checking filters first....air, fuel, and the one they call "banjo" (on top of the fuel pump)

There is loads on here, about those three, and more. It's worth searching through the forum. by using the search facility above ( just below adverts).

Good luck, and mind to tell us how you get on.

Hope this helps.

Hi thanks for the prompt reply. It was sericed last week thought that may have cured the problem. It would appear not. Air and Fuel filter changed. Not sure about Banjo Filter may have a look tomorrow. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Have a search for 'throttle position sensor'. Can't remember if your symptoms match that, but worth checking. What's your fuel consumption like out of interest?

Fuel consumption remains pretty stable at about 24-26mpg. Been like that since we bought it. The acceleration problem seems to be intermittent and only at very low speeds until about 2000 revs. I know the turbo kicks in about then and you do get a boost. But now if I have an incline i could probably run faster up the hill.

Shall go and look for 'throttle position sensor' just now

fuel consumption sounds more or less within normal limits. See what your searches turn up. BF member Dandywarhol is (if he and others will forgive me) our senior mechanic plus has had the throttle sensor problem. See if he reads this thread and comments and try PMing him if not.

Good luck - keep us posted. 8)
