Ticking noise!!

Post by Bongo bus » Sat Apr 11, 2009 12:47 pm

Hi,
My freda's making a ticking/clinking noise from the left front area.
At first it started as a single clink when you pulled away..now its a near constant noise all the time. Its not engine related. I'm thinking cv joint?...but they were changed by the last owner & the noise doesn't get any worse full lock in a circle. Then I thought wheel bearing..but theres no play or sound when you spin the wheels. I've checked the prop shaft as best as i could..the joints seem o.k. I'm now wondering if it could be the diff?
Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks
Spence

Hi....no, I wish it were something simple as that. The vehicle still drives great with the noise....which is worrying.
I just hope its not the front diff? :(
Thanks for the advice though.

Hi
I'd tend to agree with Dolly...check the simple things first...I had some horrendous noise coming from the N/S front, indicative of a serious problem...put the spare wheel on drove up the road, and no noise. I have found bongos particularly sensitive to tyre/alignment problems. An almost invisible potential carbuncle in the tyre (usually on the inside where you can't see it) .We had this on a Fiat we had from new, whilst we were in Switzerland...we stopped at a large, impressiv-looking garage, the boss drove it for us, and said we had a serious problem...we stopped at a rather nice hotel, and their garage (a Mercedes expert) went through it for 2 days, and couldn't find the problem....we finished our journey (SLOWLY  ), and when we got to our friend's house, we changed to the spare...job done....so, the motto is...give it a whirl, and report back
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

My Bongo was making a similar sounding noise until recently as it now seems that I have tracked down the "fault". It sounds REALLY silly but I had recently removed the bull bars and spot lights and there's a cable with plastic connector on it that dangles in front of the radiator just behind the grill. It seemed that these were clanging against the radiator as I drove!!

Hi Bongo bus... Wheeltrims or alloys? Maybe one of the plastic tabs of the wheeltrim has snapped and is clonking as the wheel revolves?

Have you used cable ties on a wheeltrim?
