Hi David

Sorry I don't know about the CV boot, but with the brake light, I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that the wire can get chaffed where it goes into the body?

Hi Dave, i dunno about the CV boot either, but surely the LED light in the spoiler was regarded as a fail by your mot man? I realize that if lights are fitted then they must work, but the spoiler and lamp are an accessory item after all.

I agree with brora...Chances are the wires have had there insulation compromised where they pass through the tailgate.

going to a motor factor tonight to see if the kits have the part i'm looking for...

as for the brake light i think i'll just remove it or the spoiler, can't work if it's not there...?

Extract from MOT Tester's manual -
Additional stop lamps
Any additional stop lamps fitted and connected must be tested. Where extra lamps are fitted and there is doubt as to whether they are connected, the benefit of this doubt should be given to the presenter.

So it looks as if you can just tell them it's not connected :D Same rules do not apply to factory fitted High-Level brake lights - they must work.

I used to have a BMW M3, and the rear spoiler "light" is just a reflector in the (genuine) M3's, but it's a brake light on the other models.

I had a similar MOT experience, and saying it was just a reflector was enough to get a pass.

Hope this helps,

still can't find the reason why it's not working, gonna remove spoiler today, only four bolts. i am actually in need of a new back door as theives smashed window and i' ve dented it, so anyone know where there might be a pref silver rear door not too far away for not much money?( not asking for much am i  )

cv boot kit did not have part required in box, it's like a reducing rubber band that goes between the boot and the cv housing any ideas?

cheers david

I dont know the problem you have. My freda has conventional boots with nothing inside. if it is loose is it clamped properly ? Often kits use cable ties which are difficult to tighten I use the steel bands which come with the proper boot. I changed my boots two years ago and no problem with the test this week.

gonna have to bite the bullet with this one and replace the cv boot, tried to adapt a new kit by cutting the new boot down an making a reducing ring, top job or so i thought... clamped the boot up with proper metal ties as you get in the kit, seemed like it wasn't going anywhere, till i road tested it. got back and it had thrown it off again.

can you fit new cv boots without too much hassle, i only have five more days till retest, can you do them in situe?

sorted brake light problem, removed spoiler!! took about a minute to undo 4 bolts and unplug wires!! looks weird without it.

I'd have left the spoiler in situ, and used insulation tape to cover the light...Then peel it away after the MOT...
