Some muppet chopped off my audio connector

Post by catzi » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:00 pm

My recently acquired Bongo has a UK Goodmans CD/Stereo unit. Unfortunately, the sound comes out of the rear speakers only and the two rear speakers equate to a mixture of front and rear on the unit i.e. fading Front-to-Rear actually makes the unit fade left to right.

Pulled the head unit out so I could look at the connector and found, to my dismay, that the connectors had been cut off the head unit and off the loom  . The stereo had been joined directly to the loom using spade connectors. The head unit has a number of unconnected wires and it's all a bit of a mess really.

I would probably like to reattach an original connector to the loom. Question is, where can I get one and can anyone tell me how it's connected up i.e. which wires go where?

Obviously I'd then need to reattach the head unit's connector and wire it up properly or alternatively buy another head unit as I don't have a manual (and can't find a downloadable one) and no wiring diagrams. I'd really rather keep it though as it's got a 3.5mm input which is great for the iPod.

Honestly, what a botched job, a real piece of muppetry. :x Any help/advice appreciated.

Goodmans must be the worst make ever to be sold in the UK - everything I have ever bought has been absolute rubbish and will never buy again (RANT over).
I actually dont think goodmans stereos actually have ISO connectors on, so hardly surprising that it has been bodged up.
I seem to recall the mazda - ISO connectors are sometimes labelled on the wires, so comparing one with an original connector block should tell you which wires to patch in to.
If I get time (dont hold your breath :( ) i will try andcheck over the next couple of days.

you could go to a breakers and chop the connector off the loom leaving some wires attached to splice onto your loom halfords do an iso connector that will plug into the mazda connector

Try Harry! He's breaking his Bongo.. :!:
If you got the original connector the wires should coordinate, then simply buy the appropriate patch for the head unit!!
