Flashing Hold Light
I recently purchased a Mazda Bongo. Its my pride and joy.
When I drove it for the first time (I imported it through an agent), the speedo was not working, and then the hold light started to flash. I stopped after 5 minutes to refuel and the problem rectified itself.
This has happened 3 times since I purchased the vehicle. Stopping for 5 minutes, then driving away again seems to rectify the problem.
The import agent changed the speedo from kph to mph. I notice that the speedo is reading 10 miles per hour slower than it should.
I would be most grateful for any advice that you may be able to give me. Many thanks

Re: Flashing Hold Light
Have they replaced the face with one showing mph and kph, or have they fitted an electronic chip to modify the reading (the speedo will go up to 180mph
). If its a chip, they can cause problems, sometimes loose connections , sometimes faulty chips.

Re: Flashing Hold Light
I've an idea that a flashing Hold Light can be diagnostic, try searching Hold and Light and Flashing.
Warm welcome to Bongoland.

Sounds v likely the import agent's work on the KPH/MPH conversion may have disturbed things. Have you spoken with them or do your prefer to DIY fix it?
And welcome!

Welcome to the forum, stick your location in your profile by clicking on "user control panel" top right, may be some local assistance round the corner
I'd agree with the above, there have been lots of similar problems with the speedo chip, that's be the first place to look. Lots of people have used the speedo from an mx6, or just use the stick on mph face & remove the chip if you can handle the mileage being in km.

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: Flashing Hold Light
Many thanks for your response and advice folks. To my knowledge they just replaced the speedo face in mph as opposed to kph (At least that is what it looks like).
I look forward to hearing from you again.

I dont know anything about engines or mechanics, however I have the very prestigous job of Master of Steamship Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine (I only do it at weekends now). SS Sir Walter Scott is 110 years old, carries 250 passengers, and is powered by a Matthew Paul Triple Expansion Steam engine. You must pay me a visit during the summer.

Almost as old as meSteamship Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine. SS Sir Walter Scott is 110 years old,

We have a meet of Scottish Bongo members at Bridge of Orchy tomorrow with an overnight wild camp, seven Bongos going so far. So is there any chance of you being able to get over there, you have less distance than me to travel. The Sir walter Scott does not sail at this time of the year I understand.
You will get first hand instructions on how to sort out your speedo as some quite knowledgeable members will be present including dandywarhol who lectures on automotive studies at a college in Edinburgh.
See the Scottish section for details.

Folks - many thanks for your advice. Yes I will drive to Bridge of Orchy tomorrow and I am looking forward to meeting up with you all.
Its going to be rather exciting as this will be the first night that I have stayed in my Bongo.
Very many thanks yet again to all of you who have advised me on how to sort this problem.
For steviebongo - Steve I purchased the vehicle through Algies autos in Bristol. I could phone them for advice and will do next week but I am hopeful that some kind member will be able to help me tomorrow at Bridge of Orchy
