Dashboard Switch Blanks and wiring Behind

Post by mr and mrs pips » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:53 pm

Hi

The bongo appears to have lots of blanked off switched to the left of the wheel. not sure if anyone else has investigated

I looked behnd these blanked off switched to find a couple of bundles of wiring anyone know what they MAY do.

Image

you can see 2 large bundles of wires either side of the Black bundle of wires ( the black lot go too the rear screen demister) the two coloured bundles go to the blanked off dash .

hope that all makes sence

any ideas. ?

In mine the outer switches run the electric blinds in the back, the one in the middle says A & B which allows the front fog switch to turn on fog or spot lights depending on its position. :D

Yep, the theory goes that the bongo has a standard loom, with capabilities for all the possible extras...some however don't have the extra's fitted,so often the plugs will be clipped into the back of the blanks to keep things tidy. Sometimes the circuits are live too, they just need the extras plugging/fitting then away you go!

As max says, the lower bank of blanks is where the drivers controls for the electric are situated, (passengers have their own buttons too) one of the higher blans would have been for an electrically raised parking pole, the other, again as max said, was for the a/b button.

You may find another blank on the lower right hand side (next to the "rear" switch) That would have a switch with a picture of an engine on it, this is for bongo's fitted with the "cold start" option, with two batteries, and an exhaust shut valve.

Funny you mention that guys...
I wondered what the blanked loom to the right of the rear heating fan/isolator switch was..
Plus i have a spare what looks like fog plug jus hanging there (loitering with intent) in the same area as the front fog & aftermarket rear fog switch fitting, which i replaced with a gen Mazzy to match in & LED'd it now changes fom backlit to blue. (so i know if it's on).
I was planning to find out where it goes & fit some spots at some point with another swich i acquired with an on light.
I thought the former loom might have had something to do with the front parking aid/rod thing, but i think its the latter.

I think thats the one that services the parking aid. (if fitted)
I have a larger green conection block that runs to a blanking plate next to the rear fan switch too. (see BDC's quote).
If the one with the red wires is live & is what i think it is? (& sutable)..
I plan to use it for some small led spots.

Yea on mine the outer ones are for the blinds but the middle was spare so I now run the wire for my mk3 coolant arm thru it, nice and handy, the 3 above were spare too so my cruise control switch box now sits on it. neat too.

Not sure as my memory fails me, but Ste (BDC) had something like this and as he had some looms dangling dehind his front bumper I checked them out. It turned out to be Front fog light wiring, so an easy job to connect up. It was testing and finding out what they were that was the hard part.

Mine too.. I think it's for a parking aid.. The lighted rod thing that comes out the bumper?
I don't have one but i remember one on a green over silver aft i test drove four years ago & nearly bought.
Bloke said it was a parking sensor i ascertained it didn't sense any thing, just let you know where the front of the vehicle is.

Got one of those too. And it works! The switch for the "Corner Guide" is on the other side.

OK, so now you got me intrigued...
To the left of the wheel i have the blinds, (lower two) rear demister (upper bank).

To the right of wheel, me fogs front & rear (upper bank, rear runs off front) rear fan (lower bank) next to that in the blank is a spur for bongo's fitted with the "cold start" option. (Thanks BDC for enlightening me on that one!)
& a free floating block with four red & black wires currently doing the last tango in Paris somewhere between the two banks on the right!!
