10W30 oil Ebay or where?

Post by Glenda » Tue Mar 18, 2008 2:57 pm

It's time mid services to change oil and filter on petrol V6. Allansvehicles did last service and will be doing the next one in the late autumn. Allan reccomends 10W30 oil. Its hard for me to find this in Brighton.

I found this on EBAY (see link below) . What do youse think about this? or can I find better with quality before price?

Try looking in yellow pages under Motor Factors. These are the places the mechanics buy their bits from and are usually much cheaper and have a better range than the likes of Halfords etc

I had tried Cliffords etc but no luck but have just rung motor factors and they have it. I would buy the ebay one but feel its not worth the risk.

Thanks for tip.

looks a decent buy,but i would buy 4 x 5 litres to make it worth while,i normally pay around £12-£15 for 5 litres of 10/30 semi synthetic, from any decent motor factors,so some saving to be had imho.

I dunno if they do a 10/30 oil,but costco do some pretty good deals on 20 litre drums of engine oil.... They were doing a deal on magnatec the last time i was there too, it worked out around half price compared to halfords.

Just back from motorfactors. He erroneously said that I had asked for 5/30 oil and that he didn't stock 10/30 as it was unavailable in England!!!

So back to square one. I'm tempted to buy the 4x5 litre Nissan oil from Ebay.

Maybe Doone can advise........

Can anybody in the know, definitely rule out the use of a good quality 10/40 semi synth?

That can be bought anywhere, and i think i'm correct in saying that is the choice of most mechanics as the "all round" choice of lubrication, when the specifics of oil type are in question....

Colin Lambert's fact sheet actually recommends 10/40, if you can't get 10/30 - he also says not to waste money on synthetic/semi-synthetic oils if your engine has done more than 25,000 miles.

Was that regarding the v6 petrol though john? I think he was reffering to the diesel on the factsheet. (going from memory)

Just checked BDC - he was referring to diesel  (doesn't even mention a grade for petrol engines).
The Saab dealer I used to work for puts 10w/40 in just about everything, straight from a big tank. I use it in my diesel with no problems.

That's right john, i use a 10/40 semi synth in my diesel bongo,i also use the same oil in both of my other cars, If i'm to stick my neck out, i'd suggest its fine to use 10/40 in the v6 also... ( i accept no responsibility etc.... )

Come to think of it, i'm sure other v6 owners use 10/40 oil, i've just done a search, but couldn't locate the actual thread.... :(
