tail pipe to back box fell off yesterday i have been looking for a replacement the soft steel ones from bongo shop are £119 but i spotted a stainless steel one for £150. The quistion is
1) is stainless steel worth the price difference
2) can you fit stainless steel rear to the rest of the original exhaust or do you have to replace the whole thing, £300 out of my price limit i,m afraid.
exhausted

I just got mine delivered to day from Iezura 0800 3102080 total of £53.49 delivered and it's got a Mazda sticker on it... but there does appear to be a new weld where the long pipe meets the box. Still more then happy at that price. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/iezura

As I said elsewhere the Bongo back box is an appalling design that is designed to BREAK, not rot, but BREAK.
Stainless steel will only stop it rotting I'm not so sure it will stop it breaking at the join between back pipe and box - I'd be interested to know if SS back boxes do better resist the flexing that occurs there or not.
As soon as the weather warms up I'm going to clamp a length of Dexion angle (or something similar) from the bend in the pipe to the back box itself to brace across the flex point.
At present I wouldn't risk spending any more than £50odd with Iezura for a replacement.

Who cares? Stainless exhausts come with a lifetime guarantee, anything goes wrong it gets fixed at the supplier's expense and YOU don't have to go crawling underneath to fix it.I'd be interested to know if SS back boxes do better resist the flexing that occurs there or not.
If you are aiming to keep the vehicle for a few years then the added expense of a stainless system is worth it in my opinion provided it comes with the lifetime guarantee. If not then go down the diy mild steel route.
BUT is it a "lifetime" guarantee against "damage" as opposed to corrosion?Veg_Ian wrote:Who cares? Guarantees are often not worth the paper they are written on due to get outs and clauses.
I had a watch with a lifetime guarantee on the mainspring once, trouble was if the mainspring went it slashed your wrist.
Not in my experience. It depends upon the company of course. I had a stainless system from Powerflow on my Townace. I had to take it in every year for a check as part of the warranty. Twice they picked up on minor things like a faulty hanger and replaced it free of charge. Nothing to do with corrosion. Read the small print before agreeing the deal and handing over the cash.
