CV joint symptoms? Resistance when in full turn

Post by yoyomiyagi » Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:37 pm

Hello. Anastasia is due her MOT soon and I just wondering whether she needs new joints. When one turns the wheel fully either to the right or left
a considerable resistance to the motor drive is felt as well as even a little vibration. Are these classic CV joint or boot replacement symptoms. Just thought that I might as well get that fixed before I get told at QuickFit that the MOT failed and that they can't get the part.

Does anyone also know of a Bongo-friendly place to get an MOT in West London (Just moved down from Edinburgh)? Or if it is the joints, where the cheapest place to source them are?
Any advice appreciated.

sounds like the four-wheel drive tying itself up at full lock. normally when a cv-joint starts breaking up you'll get a knocking at full lock or in extreme cases in a straight line. unless the cv boot/gaitor is split the cv joints are not a failable item.

Yeah, I'd say it's normal too.

My 4wd Bongo does the same thing. I owned and Suzuki SJ and Toyota Land Crusier and they both did the same thing when in 4wd.

Thanks for the advice. You could be right. It's just that it does not only happen at full lock - also going around round abouts etc. I guess I will find out soon enough.
