Waxoiling in Wigan

Post by bigdaddycain » Sat Jul 14, 2007 6:56 am

Well, ive just had my bongo well and truly Waxoiled \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

My bongo has been on these shores since 2002,and has had no extra rust treatment from the day it left the factory :?

I have been meaning to get round to it, but seeing as my bongo is mothballed during the winter months, and isn't really used in the wet weather,i haven't had it down as a major priority.

I have been keeping a check on the underbody at her M.O.T'S, but i've had no cause for concern, (not compared to some that i have seen  )

I had the waxoil job carried out at Wheelquick in Wigan. (01942 217800)

I thought i'd help the process along though, a couple of days previously, i used a few tins of Gunk engine degreaser on the underside, left it ten minutes, then jetwashed the gooey stuff off as best i could.

After checking the floorpan was completely dry, i drove the bongo down to mike's, so he could get cracking with the sticky stuff

Two hours, and one and a half gallons later, my bongo emerged nicely protected for our lovely british summers

I was quite suprised how thorough a job was done to be honest, considering it was only £50!

There is a stage 2 waxoil protection procedure that wheelquick carry out, for £110 where the chassis rails are injected, along with the inside of the panels.

I didn't feel that i needed this level of protection, (considering my limited use)so i opted for the stage 1.

I have noticed an unexpected benefit of the waxoiling too, i run quite large tyres on my bongo 245 / 45 /18's which create a fair amount of road noise, there is a DEFINITE reduction in the amount of road noise transmitted to the cabin,(at least when the windows are closed)

And the bongo seems a little quieter all round

I suppose that if enough waxoil is applied, it has the added benefit of soundproofing the bongo \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Now, whats next on the list?......... :-k
