Glow plug flashing mystery
The glow plug light flashes after than van has been running for over half an hour, roughly, not every time. I used the jumper cable technique to get the glow plug error codes. I can't make head nor tail of it, it's a complete mystery
. I've attached a film of the flashing light in a .zip file. If anyone has the ability to watch and decypher this code I'd be really grateful. The video is also at https://youtu.be/LZtl8AIaXyc

Thank you, that's what I followed, and I am absolutely stuck.gilly99 wrote: Fri Aug 16, 2024 8:20 pm Try this.....

Re: Glow plug flashing mystery
easy....
P1228 - Wastegate failed open
P0400 - Exhaust EGR malfunction.
I am assuming your Bongo is post Sept 1999. Basically, from the start, the first long dash is the start of the 4-digit sequence, with a ~2sec gap to the short dashes that actually gives you each digit. So for example....
long dash 2sec then nothing = 0
long dash 2sec then 8 short = 8
... and so on until you have 4-digits
Then there is a gap to the next sequence of 4-digits, and after displaying all codes (in your case just two) it all loops around to start over again.
These two fault codes are very common, and are not so easy to pinpoint the actual cause. There are lots of threads on the forum to follow the fault diagnosis, starting with ensuring your battery (incl. 2nd LB battery if fitted) are good and no bad earths/low voltages corrupting the ECU sensing, moving through checking various air temperature sensors, checking the wastegate movement is free and actually cleaning the EGR system + valves. Suppose you are going into limp mode after 30mins or so? - uber frustrating and I feel your pain!!! I had P0400 + P1114 earlier this year, and turned out to be sediment in the cooling system that was triggering a temp sensor fault into the ECU. I only found that after stripping/cleaning the EGR system, vacuum system pipes and wastegate mind!!!
Enjoy!!!

Re: Glow plug flashing mystery
Thank you so much, I really do appreciate you decypherying those codes, I was going round in circles. I'll start with the LB as that's something I can tackle, as I am not mechanically minded.
