Bongo Fury

Can anyone reassure me that my Bongo might be anything other than ****ed? ( 'scuse my language. )

I was very gently accelerating and got to about 15mph max, if it makes any difference.

You might be lucky but I fear your initial assessment is absolutely correct

Oh dear - when was it last changed? Most people don't know, which is why they tend to be replaced when imported.

Aww man sorry to hear that... I guess only way to find out is for a competent to look at the innards ?
As I gather it is common for the valves to hit the pistons. Mine is in for that now + other pipe/cooling issues I done it through worry of not seeing any history of it having been done in the last 10 years.

Fingers crossed that the low speed might mean less damage rather than it going on the M-Way. Good luck with it.

I've read some things that suggest our diesel engines could be non-interference types.
Probably clutching at straws but can anyone confirm one way or the other?

No, diesels rarely are with the compression ratio required

+1 on the Gates look-up chart. The last non-crasher belt drives I know of were Ford Ranger 2.2/2.5's. There's not many non-interference engines built in the last decade.


Found this. Doesn't say diesel or petrol but I'm trying to gather as many straws as possible to clutch on to.

That guy was a one post wonder .. he was only on the Forum for 10 minutes ...and never waited for an answer .. let alone how he went on ..!!

That may well be the case but referring to that thread was to dispel any doubts that this is an interference engine.

I can't link this PDF but a google search for wlt 2.5 diesel engine came up with this.

It's a technical service training manual for the engine.

I think lots of you will find it very interesting.

Doesn't seem to help my situation but might help others somehow.

Anyone got a review of the V6?
I only know the diesel.
