National Bongo Day New Forest Royal Oak Pub Lunch

To celebrate 10 years since the formation of the Bongo Fury owners club, Sunday 24th February 2013 has been designated as National Bongo Day. What we have in mind is a series of events in various locations across the UK & Ireland where Bongonauts can get to meet each other and perhaps have a Sunday lunch.

Good news on the traffic front. Phoned Beaulieu Events Department. The Pistonheads group will be coming from the Lyndhurst direction at 9.30 am. They do not expect any traffic problems after this at all. No disruption near the Royal Oak at all. The Museum does play host to big gatherings all year and this one of the smaller ones.

The Pistonheads website gives likely attendance as 200. Not a problem on a Sunday as the surrounding roads are fairly good. The main bottleneck is getting through Lyndhurst, but it is winter and this is mainly a Summer problem.

Hope this is not famous last words, but we look OK. Just bring something warm as it is freezing here and the Royal Oak is on open forest, so quite windy. Its a beautiful day here, blue sky, bright sun but like stepping into a fridge. The mud has dried out so all should be good for campsites.

Yes, looking at the website. As long as you don't burn proper wood!! And off the ground.

Is it likely that all bongos will be together at Setthorns...
not rallied before.... do these things ...occur.... or does

Its up to the site where everyone is placed. It is a large site with no phone reception. Was up there earlier and it is very confusing. I will ask the warden to put all Bongos together tomorrow.

Easiest way to find it is from the A35. follow directions given on the website.

Looks like myself and Mr Colobus are cursed when it comes to Bongo meets...we had to pull out of the last one we were going to and now we're having to pull out of this one too :( Have had flu this week and was hoping against hope that it would work its way out my system before the weekend but no joy.....

Hope you all have a good meet up and we WILL meet you all sometime

For those coming to Setthorns, the campsite area is oaken bottom. For those looking for us there will be a white motorhome with an awning registration starting EU and my green and silver striped Bongo with a brown Quecha, registration MYD.

Additional information there is a good chippie in Brockenhurst and the Queeens Head in Burley does good food.

Further warning to all. The signing is non existent and I got horribly lost on the site last night and ended out in the forest on a track. Its a lovely place but badly signed and not good in the dark. Plus it is spectacularly cold. No phones at all, just a red phone box.

The Royal Oak is very different, main road, fires and no problems. So see you there, or at Setthorns.

Well we will be heading down to Setthorns/ Oaken Bottom tomorrow morning, probably arrive mid-day'ish, depends how long we sit up on Portsdown Hill for coffee ;-)

There is a sign by the entrance according to Google Maps and Street View; http://goo.gl/maps/oKtGy
