CB Radio 27/81 at the Bash

Post by dobby » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:43 pm

Been in the loft, found my CB radio a Cobra 21x fm on the old uk frequencies. Might wire it up for the bash :D

Anyone else tempted

No interested, but I am curious. Is this for en route, or while you are on site? Can you only communicate via the forum and a radio or will you be venturing out in public. I shall look for the long aerial emanating from a Bongo and I shall come over and see the whites of your eyes to see if you are a real or virtual being

I think I grew out of it when I was 18 as well  and I've got a forum name based on a kid's film character.

Just thought it might be quite funny to give it some use.

Oh well I'll get me coat.....and put the rig back in the loft

Oh don't sulk. I was only joking. When I did CB radio I had an AM set before they legalised FM and killed CB off completely. My "handle" was Reckless Rat! (Yes, another childrens character!)

Better to sell it while its is still permitted.

27/81 was withdrawn in 1995 with use allowed only for the remaining life of the equipment but your average boot sale/ebay buyer might not know that!

Put it in the loft and it might not be worth anything by the time you next get it down if Offcom decide to call time on it (not that I know who would want those frequencies).

Better comms at the Bash might be PMR 446 with the tone squelch left open.

I was amazed it still worked to be honest.

CB Still seems to be used by farmers up here and there was a bit of Italian 'skip' (can you get skip on FM?).

Kids were fascinated by it though.

Thanks for advice on value etc, I'll be keeping it to be honest.

PS wasn't sulking ...........honest!

Had a good laugh looking at their second hand prices. Some of those boxes must be nigh on 30 years old.

My junk in the loft must be worth a fortune - if only I could get dealers' prices for it!!!

Good fun looking at all the kit, lots of memories :D

Pity CB got to be so naff, it was great fun back in the day....

Mobile communication for the masses, scared the cr*p out of the government of the day - they had to legalise it
