Any suggestions for good campsites around the Loire Valley?

Stayed at a good site? Or a really poor one? And what about wild camping? Put your comments here.

Post by matt drastik » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:25 pm

Just booked up for a few weeks to France with the bongo in the summer, was wondering if anyone has any good campsite recommendations for the Loire Valley in France and preferebly near Le Loire Velo cycle path.

No.

Good wild-camping there though, check out the first bit of this thread.... http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 37&t=67347

Keep a note of this website.... http://www.furgovw.org/mapa_furgoperfecto/ ....although in Spanish you can get the gist of all the sites, we used it a lot especially when our schedule didn't quite go to plan and we ended up juggling things about.

We think we stayed here: http://www.camping-chinon.com about 20 years ago, very handy for Chinon town and some excellent Chinon Red!

Stayed here in Amboise a couple of times: http://www.campsite-amboise.com/

It's a municipal site but very clean, tidy and good value. New toilet/showr block is very good and there's a bar and cafe on the edge of site where you get fresh croissants in the morning. It's situated on an island in the middle of the river Loire so you can't get much closer to the water. Can be a few mozzies around as a result. The town is lovely with several gift shops and nice restaurants.

Best moment of last years French trip was just as we were leaving the site and had parked by the office to settle up, and a camper was cycling along looking at the van in a serious case of Bongo-envy. He wasn't looking where he was going and hit a pot hole and there was a loud exclamation of "merde" :)

Thanks for links, like the clickable map website from Muzorewa.

Simon - thanks for the camping amboise site, looks very good value for the location, as most municipals are but with some facilities too.

It's originally from Briwy, I can't take the credit for that. But it is good, we used those sites extensively
