An apology

I just wanted to apologise for bringing up the Hinckley car park issue at the AGM. I was trying to be funny .... and quite clearly I wasn't.

This is what happens when Mr Needle lets me go to the AGM on my own. Normally he reigns me in but he was back at the tent looking after a sleeping Needle baby. I promise to keep my mouth shut at future AGMs.

(However, on a serious note, while I was trying to be funny, I wasn't lying. There really is only ONE car park in the whole of Hinckley that my Bongo can fit into and because Hinckley's a market town this is almost always full of the traders' Transits from about 5am every market-day morning.

So Bongo owners, avoid Hinckley like the plauge. Not JUST because you won't be able to park your Bongo .... but because it's a s@*t hole (Mr Needle dragged me here kicking a screaming).

Yeah, you see I don't read things like MMM so I didn't know. If I did I would have been much wiser.

Ah Well.

It - the "Height Fight" - has been a live issue in MMM for more years than I can remember and I can remember a lot more years than Kirsty.

there are a few of us who keep bringing up the height issue - nothing to do with age we just want the right to park like car drivers and use park and ride - as is our right - years ago I had a high top V.W. and in Cambridge couldn't get into any car parks for the park and ride so took the camper into Cambridge and caused problems for all - it's the only way to get ourselves heard.

******** (not printable on a public forum

To all you guys & gals who think height barriers should be banned:

You bought a bongo out of choice and knew what you were buying.

Height barriers on car parks are there for very good reasons, to ensure that the majority of the driving public can find a space instrad of being crowded out by large commercial vehicles, caravans etc. and its a bit of a cheek to expect the drivers of normal size vehicles to give up their spaces (often several spaces) to make life more convenient for a small (sometimes selfish) minority..(sometimes selfish =I'm talking primarily about drivers of commercial vehicles who are often under time/financial pressure to park quickly and safely...I know because I drive commercially myself)

The remark about the only car park in Hinkley which will take a bongo being full of commercial vans on market day says it all. Imagine turning up at your local barriered car park to find the barrier removed and the car park full of big vehicles blocking multiple spaces.

Love your bongo but don't get selfish...you chose it...nobody forced you to buy it...so suffer the huge advantages of a super vehicle and accept that there are a few downers as well.

I'd have said this at the AGM but I couldn't sort out the words in my head in time. I try not to open my mouth until my mind is in gear.

Exactly - but why make height the sole determinant?

A Bongo has exactly the same physical footprint as a medium sized estate car, it just happens to be a bit taller.

It takes up no more space & fits in the same size parking space (unlike many vans of the same height and most motorhomes) as an estate car - yet it is denied entry.
The solution is easy - parking only within marked spaces. If height has to be the determinant lets have parking in the only park allowing over height vehicles restricted to over height vehicles?

If we can't use the spaces reserved for them, why should they be allowed to use the only spaces we can use?

PS much of this is currently irrelevant to me as I drive a tintop, but it has affected me in the past.

I'm with you all the way there scanner..but the problem lies in cost.

Height barriers provide a very cheap one off solution which covers most 'problem' vehicles...unfortunately it also effects one or two others such as bongos.

Virtually any other method requires supervision and supervision = £££££

Incidentally I also drive a tintop which goes under most barriers....unfortunately I sometimes forget about my bike rack...which doesn't

More and more are using the "only one space and within the lines" criteria as it makes more money and thus pays for itself.
