Tailgate Awning

Post by digitalgypsy » Sat Jan 23, 2016 12:47 pm

Hi Bongo comrades,

Does anyone use a decent awning for the tailgate when it's open? I've got the Khyam tailgate awning like this one:

I'm not all that pleased with it though. I think it's the only one that's ever been made for the Bongo however. I'm sure I remember someone saying Comfortz Leisure were in the process of making one.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

They keep saying they're going to do one but its taking forever to appear. A guy in Cornwall is making quite a nice one to trder but its not cheap and I felt it still needed some product development particularly in relation to having sprung poles underneath the tailgate so no damage was done to the tailgate when someone stepped into the vehicle. I did a post on it, with pics i think, last summer after i'd seen it at the Bongo Bash.

It will be a bit drafty as it's designed as a tailgate windbreak, not an awning. I just got one yesterday. Ideal for getting changed after beach or kayaking. Good for cooking at the rear too but I wouldn't sleep in the van with only that at the back.

Reimo do a good one, but again a room not designed for sleeping.

Lots of versions here:

That's much more like it, though i'd still like to see a slope on the sides and sprung poles at tailgate corners so that the walls don't get pushed in so much in the wind.

Thanks for the pointers. Comfortz Leisure make good products, they completely reupholstered my seats and the work was high quality. I've just emailed them so I'll let you know what they say.

Are you still looking for a tailgate awning? I'm about to sell my Khyam tailgate awning. Purchased year before last direct from Khyam when it first came on the market. Used it a handful of times. I prefer something on the side.

Looking for £100.00 as I'll be putting it in the For Sale section soon and that's the limit. No offer due to that price.
