Realise there are plenty of old threads on this but wondered if anyone has tried a self inflating mattress up top. I don't find the standard foam mattress too comfy so was thinking of trying something like this to top it up:

Anyone else tried this and any thoughts?
Thanks

Re: Improving standard cabin bed comfort - self inflating ai
How would it cope with the hatch?
Re: Improving standard cabin bed comfort - self inflating ai
Yeah guessing it would need to be unrolled when up top just prior to light out....
Maybe too much of a faff?
Any easy/cheap top up alternative ideas welcome

Our kids used to sleep up there and we used single self inflating ones on top of the foam mattress, I did see a different sort of mattress with filled tubes based on a Thai design
Re: Improving standard cabin bed comfort - self inflating ai
Self inflating mattresses, especially thicker ones, take a bit of work to deflate them. Double size would be too cumbersome, and impossible for any "comfort exits" in the night. I have slept on my own upstairs on a single lightweight Thermarest (expensive!) and that could just about be stood on its side to allow the hatch to be opened for a quick exit without any deflating.

We sleep on 2 single self inflating mattresses in the roof, easier to manage than a double. We have always been very comfortable on them.
