rear awning

Post by nennyty » Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:38 pm

Hi. Has anyone found a smallish drive away awning which will fit at or to the rear of a Bongo. Rear door of Bongo able to open up inside the awning. We are having a split rear conversion in our new bongo and thought this would be the ideal extra room. There is a touring XS awning on the Bongo fury for sale list; any experience of this or any other welcome please. Thanks in advance

Made one ourselves from 4 shower curtains and a little elastic. Not elegant, not drive away but takes a couple of minutes to put up and provides additional privacy for the potty  unlike some others where you can see the feet. Oh yes and the tailgate will close with it up.

we have a khyam excelsior, its the 3x3x3, the back door opens up inside to horizontal, perfect, and still leaves enough head height in the awning.
expensive but worth every penny.

Just to put this to sleep in our case. We eventuallly got a Khyam XL tailgate awning which was on special offer though still at the pricy end. It is an easy fit over the tailgate of our Bongo Friendee but not over sized at 2.10 x 2.10 plus 1.45 tunnel. 3 openings plus tunnel. VERY easy and quick to put up and its driveaway. You will need a separate groundsheet/carpet but as so many places now want breathable ones that was ok too. :D

Bongobaz used an old ridge tend outer and adapted it. Worked very well!
