Rear Kitchen
Right. So we’ve finally decided on a rear kitchen. Main question is can you use it with the tailgate shut? Or is it a case of having to keep it open for gas reasons?
It’s probably a stupid question but I can’t find answer anywhere :s

Re: Rear Kitchen
We've a rear kitchen and often cook with the tailgate shut and are still here. You'll probably find though that particularly at cooler times the bongo will steam up quickly so you'll want ventilation from open windows anyway.
Re: Rear Kitchen
Yeah that makes sense. Thank you! I said it was a stupid question
Re: Rear Kitchen
I've got a rear kitchen, spent about a month in the van over the summer and haven't gassed myself yet!! As has been said the van will tend to steam up quite quickly so often open the rear O/S window for ventilation. If it's very still you can cook with the tailgate open but the flame gets blown about so a lot less efficient.
If you're still considering your options, do be aware that some hobs like this one have the knobs down side, so easier and a lot safer to use from inside or outside.

The only downside is that you can't then have a glass lid over the unit to give extra worktop space when it's not in use.

Re: Rear Kitchen
Same here, we have a rear kitch and, despite my paranoia about setting the headlining on fire, we have used it successfully with the tailgate closed. We usually have the side door and/or windows open and haven't suffered any major steaming up incidents either.
Re: Rear Kitchen
Agreed. The only problem if the tailgate's closed is that if you have fry-up in the morning the van smells like a greasy spoon caff for the rest of the day!!

Re: Rear Kitchen
So I’ve finally got a kitchen sorted, how have people attached it to the Bongo? I’ve kept my split seats in, just taken off the backs so the bed isn’t compromised too much.
Re: Rear Kitchen
Ours attaches into the seat runners, in a 2001 van.
Re: Rear Kitchen
I don’t have a runner in the back. I’ve got a 96
Re: Rear Kitchen
If you can get some long runners from a converter or breaker they should bolt straight in, you'll just need to modify the carpet.
