do you live in Portaferry or were there on Saturday evening May 26? We were on our way to the ferry when my son exclaimed he saw a red one parked up on a side street. As I have never known of a red one before (or any other colour in Ireland for that matter) I assumed he must have been mistaken.

You should have seen the red Bongo that was at last year's Bash.

We just purchased our first Bongo, and have done 2 weekend trips in NI so far! Our Bongo came straight of the boat via an import auction in England - we bought it from a small dealer in Armagh.
It's a 96 unconverted silver Bongo Friendee Bongolow, and so far we've camped at Glenmore (between Ballycastle and Ballintoy) at the North Coast, and at Tollymore Forest Park. Both great locations! (Glenmore is officially shut until Easter, but the owner happily accepted us staying for £6 a night since we have no electrical hook-up. "Better you than us!" was his quote - understandable, since it was the end of January!). Tollymore is open all year, and we're going back there tomorrow by the way if anyone fancies meeting up! You'll recognise us by the ... you know!
We have an absolutely fantastic contact for any Bongo repairs anyone in the Down area needs to have done by the way! THey've been looking after our various Mazda cars for many years now, and NEVER disappoint!
Anyway - we're in the Lisburn area, and would love to meet up with other (probably much more experienced) owners!

Hello Irish Bongo-ers,

We are fairly new to the Bongo forum and are based in Cork and Lisburn, Belfast (living in Cork, in-laws in Lisburn). Interested to read Tini's post about the contact in the Down area for all things Mazda. Who was this and do they do Bongo specialist stuff (like conversions etc)?

Popped into the local Cork Mazda for something the other day and the parts guy had never heard of a Mazda Bongo until that day, but I was the SECOND owner in! Irish Bongos are out there...

I also need to convert my insurance to Ireland (recently moved here from Scotland and Lifesure do not do Ireland). I have read some discussion about Dolmen Insurance but only for converted Bongo's - is this correct? Does anyone have any other options for South/North cover?

Interesting about CIS might be better bet than NIG - roughly how much do they charge?

Is the rescue service optional? as I already have that through the CSMA.

Yes, we are here on the emerald isle too, with our cool bongo, self imported from Japan and PROUD of it.

Have seen a few Bongos down south..... last year we were in Co CLare, west of Ireland and we saw a Bongo driving down the road as we sat in a little coffee shop. We thought someone had stolen our van !!!! we ran out of the shop only to discover... YES Bongos have arrived in Ireland! The one we saw was registered in Limerick, there is also another bongo head in our little village in Dublin. Cool or what!
