Hi Muz. All I do know is that there are very few open road parking places in Southern Ireland - almost no lay bys at all - and it can be a nightmare even just pulling up to use a map, pop in the back to use the Porta Potti, etc. There's a lot of land not under cultivation but whether that means legitimate and/or safe for wild camping, am not sure. Despite the fact that many of the ones we get in England come from there, I think it's true to say that the Irish are even less tolerant of their substantial numbers of travellers ("tinkers") than we are here, and that's a main reason they deliberately don't provide parking places. In some areas, there's a lot of friction between locals and tinkers, and as a result the latter can be quite threatening - I would not want to wild camp there, for that reason.

Thanks for the input guys. This is still very much at the planning stage, plenty of time yet although I hope to have the bare bones of the plan sorted before the New Year

I toured Southern Ireland for a fortnight and only ever stopped at three
official camps and that was just for a warm shower
I can't rate the place highly enough here's some of my stop overs

Well this has taken longer than anticipated to get off the ground but we now have a definite plan and ferries booked - stay tuned for further info

Just getting in some acclimatisation - bunged this lot in a slow-cooker at 4 o'clock this morning, 15 hours later...... oh yes!!!!

wicked dude when is the trip planned as we are going over to cork and surrounding area next year as sarah has sons living there ,so we would be interested in knowing where you find to stay etc

Cork & area is cracking - Kinsale particularly good. Can't comment on the camping though, I rented a wee house a few years ago for a week.

wow a small world kinsale is where sarah lived for over 10 years thats where we are going also

We're mad enough to be going mid-winter and hoping to free camp as we've not booked anywhere :S

When you thinking of going Muz? If you see a VW Autosleeper on your travels give us a wave - tentative plans of doing over to the south 2nd week of July
