Remended Alloy Wheel and Tyre sizes

Post by Nicka500 » Tue Feb 14, 2017 2:43 pm

I have just ordered a Bongo camper for delivery in May and I would like to add some new Alloy wheels.

Can anyone advise what rim size and tyre combination is best. I want it to look nice, but not at the cost of its handling. I was considering 215/55 R17s or 215/60 R16 I understand that normally the combination is different on the front to the rear, but can you run the same on front and back?.

Thanks for any help

Hi Nick.

Welcome aboard. :D

I'm not going to claim to be any sort of expert on alloys, others will be able to help, but I can say its perfectly OK to run the same tyre size front and rear.

Just be certain they are up to the slightly higher spec for the rears, load rating min 96 from memory. This can be the stumbling block when fitting alloys but it is vital. 8)

Mine feels really good on 215/55/17 alloys with all season tyres. I have 15" steels also and have driven many miles on both. Currently using the refurbed alloys and very happy with them

Tyre calculator......

Put the stock tyre in one side and then match the other side to what you are planning
I'm on 17's and use 225/50/17 98w XL ....... tried 55's but find 50's better

Depends too on the tyres ...... I found some decent Chinese tyres.... BCT ES9000 which on the A-G rating thingy came out b & C's were better than some of the big brands.... I guess... yer pays yer money and all that....
