Post by Hercules » Sun Sep 13, 2015 5:11 pm

Hello Bongonauts
Just purchased our tin top bongo and looking firstly to convert to a pop up roof. We live in the South of England, does anybody have any recommendations regarding versions and fitters?

Personally I would just buy a pop top Bongo as some times its more expensive to get a conversion.

Hi matey. I have a tin top with a side lifting JAL roof. Gives loads of head room from fore to aft but a bit of a bugger to put up and down alone if you are under 6 foot (or over) Saying that, I have always managed to close it down, even in driving rain.

Thanks for that Tanglefoot - hadn't considered a side lifter - do they give more space then?

To me .. the one single thing that makes a Bongo different to similar vehicles is the electric AFT ..

I have a side lift 'mushroom' roof' .. but unless you buy from JAL I don't think he will convert ..

There are other roof converters .. some who do DIY kits / fit themselves / or via fitting agents .. prices seem to be around £2000 / £2500 ..

Try Northstar Conversions, Southampton. They will fit Drivelodge roofs to bongos supplied by other people.

You could also consider fitting a glassfibre high top - - - - there are pros and cons as always
Origo bio stove - no Bongo!
