Waeco MS 50 Cruise Control - Fitting

I fitted my controller (standard Waeco supply) into the switch blanks at the bottom of the instrument binnacle. I have wondered if it would be easier to use if located in the ashtray resess by the handbrake. (Pre-facelift centre engine cover). Anybody tried this?

What about when you want to raise the seats to check levels or do service work, the cable from the control is very thin, and would be easily damaged.

I have seen it fitted on the centre but as mentioned, the wiring is going to be the tricky point. One option would be to fix it to the ashtray such that you could lift it up and move it to one side while you remove the consol to access the engine. Another option is to find a suitable 4 way quick release connector which might help.

It comes with a connector a little way down from the controller which might suffice but as Simon suggests, the ideal is probably to be able to unplug it before removing the consol. Maybe a little project for the dark months!

So I fitted the system this afternoon. Couple of problems maybe someone will be able to advise on.

Stationary tests of the servo and electrics show the system is working, however...

Before I cut the little black loop the CC would only engage below 40mph. I cut the loop, the system will mow only engage aboveabout 60mph! (Which works for motor way ok, but not the dreaded 50mph speed checks)

Followed Simon's guide and did the speedo connection on the green and red wire at the back of the speedo. The blue and white input wire has been split and runs through a small black box which I assume is kmph to mph conversion "chip".

Anyone got any ideas on why I can't engage the CC below 60mph?

Need to take the speed pulse from somewhere else?

Prior to using the Green and Red wire, I used the blue and white before the speedo chip i.e. with the chip in between the take-off for the CC and the speedo itself. With this config, the CC didn't work at all.

Mmm not sure. Mine engages at about 20 as I recall. What position have you got the sensitivity switch set at?

Hmm, I've tried all 3 sensitivity settings, no noticeable difference between them.

Maybe I need to try the blue and white speedo connection before it enters the "chip"?

Read an old post where the system would not engage at all which was due to a bad connector. Logic tells me the problem must be about the signal the system gets from the speedo

Had another go at it this afternoon with renewed gusto.

Now seems to be working at all speeds after taking a new connection on the SP+ (Blue and White) wire, but after the speedo chip.

Happy days, my right foot is very pleased with the results.

Glad it's sorted. I think if you take the feed before the speedo chip you will be able to engage the CC at a lower speed as you have a faster rate of pulses from the gearbox but the main thing is its all working. You won't know how you managed without it .

Derek, it probably took me about a day in total - although I did it in fits and starts but I am by no means any sort of mechanical wiz... The thing that took a while was the test driving afterwards and then tinkering with it to get it working properly after that.

Nothing wrong with the original controls, but the advantage of the stalk is you don't have to take your hand off the wheel as it just as easy to reach as the wiper or indicator switch. All my cars have had controls on the steering wheel and personally I prefer to have everything within close reach.

When I fitted the stalk (Waeco MagicSpeed Accessory MS-BE4), I noted down the following colour codes:

Stalk - Plug
Yellow - Yellow
Brown - Brown
Orange - Orange
Red - Green
Green - Not connected

I assume + & - speed buttons do not function?
