Dipping has begun

Post by cabte » Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:05 pm

Took some time to set the dip tank up and the correct amount Activator to spray on.
But this was my first dip.
Not bad for my first go,
The shapes are called Speed Shapes they are used to practice on and then use to show examples of the design

After with a carbon fiber dip

Skull dip

This was a flame skull but i did it on black to see how subtle it would look.

Think it would be better showing on a white shape.

Nice

I can see a lot of second hand centre consoles being purchased, pimped and sold? Also drive in get a set of alloys already done, leave yours as exchange, pay cash drive home on new boolers?

Hi Carl...
You won't forget I asked first for a centre console with skulls, will you?... 8) 8) 8)
Just a tip for you to try on the test pieces...try some clear laminating epoxy as a protective coating on hard-wear items....like the console...you can find some absolutely crystal clear coatings...REALLY tough
Cheers

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Looking good Carl, is it as easy as HG arts make it look, bet its not. Have you got a rough cost for say centre console size, I would love to have a go.

  Not defo not at easy as they make it out to be.
Steady hand the right flow the correct time its in the water, not long enough and it wont hydrate, to long and it can expand to much.
the correct amount of applicator.

But once you get the hang of it it its ok.

I think it looks brilliant & there are definitely a few project items I would like to have dipped. Not sure how long the fancy wheels will stay looking that smart once they've encounted a few kerbs in the car parks. How easy would it be to apply a new layer over an existing one, or would it have to be completely stripped off first?

Depending on how bad the scuff is if its took some alloy away then it might need prep again.
if it just the print then it just needs to scuff the surface so it can have something to stick to then apply the dip and lacquer again.
