Fitting VisualPerformance Plasma dials and controls...

Post by Chris-W » Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:26 pm

I really like the look of this kit, I'd like to get it installed. However, I'm worried I don't have the skills or aptitude, or both. I've read the threads on here, and although informative, I could struggle and end up with a bag of bits, loads of chopped up wiring and an undriveable Bongo.

I was wondering, could someone who has done it before help me fit these items? Would pay by cash or beer or whatever.

Cheers.

Chris.

Some here, although £26 with postage seems a little steep: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-M ... 4607292934

The title mentions Bongo, but it's the same instrument panel as similar vintage Mazda 626's (which is where the GA5R speedo comes from if you want to do a proper conversion to MPH)

So any of these ... MK IV [1991-1997] ... should be OK?

The list just there to show you which models they are compatible with, rather than you ordering for a specific model. The dash shown in the photo is same as the Bongo and it's mentioned in the title of the listing, so it hey ought to fit perfectly :)

The dials and chrome rings are very easy to fit, they also do the manual heater control and the auto gear shift in the plasma.
I found connecting the wires to the bulb that lights the ash tray up the simplest, as this lights up when you put the side light on. (you might have to extend the wire)
When you take the dials out why not spray the black surround a different colour, i did mine in silver.
You do not need to take the needles off the dials, the new plasma dials slide over them.
