Swapping Out Front & Rear Headlights

Post by digitalgypsy » Tue Mar 27, 2012 1:39 am

Hello chaps,
Does anyone know how easy it is to replace the front and rear headlights on Mazda Bongos? Specifically, I'd like to change the headlights from a 'facelift' 1999 model to the older style headlights (1995-1998). I much prefer the old shape Bongos but don't want to limit myself on opportunities for importing. It also would no way be a way job for me, I'm not a techie!

Thanks for any help as always! :P

You will need old shape front lights obviously, they have separate side lights, new front grill and a new piece of bodywork that goes under the lights and grill.
The old and new shape rear light cluster is the same shape.
Lost without my Bongo.

You would probably find someone willing to swap with you Steve.

Some people prefer the new ones to the old so I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Did you swop these after? If so how did you get on? I'm thinking of doing the opposite! ( I want to replace my old style headlights for the new style!)

Hello all,

I'm just in the process of buying the next Bongo and wanted to revisit my earlier question. Would anyone be interested in swapping their old shape front and rear headlights for the facelift type or newer? Aesthetically, I only like the old shape Bongos but don't want to limit myself when buying.

I'd need some help fitting/swapping the bits and bobs too (lights, bumpers and the lot) though as useless with that stuff. Would anyone be interested?

you will need

Two front headlights with indicators
Under light panel
Front bumper
Rear tailgate panel (you need to remove electrics loom for tailgate panel as the new shape has sidelights in the tailgate)
Rear lights.

I'm about to do the opposite to you so if you would like to buy any parts give me a shout.

Bear in mind, new style tailgates have massive great holes in which you will need to create/fill in depending on which way you're swapping.

Hey Jonny,

I live on the Isle of Wight but will travel to ya! Within reason I guess :P What colour scheme is your Bongo out of interest? Don't suppose you have any photos or can point me to which particular model you have? I haven't actually bought the new Bongo yet but will considerably speed up the process if I can buy a new shape, much more of them around.

I'll join the queue, if Jonny can't do the swap. I have an old shape on my drive at the minute with all the bits you need to swap.
I'm in the North East, and I can change the parts too.

Its black but front bumper is silver, underlamp panel is black.
Where abouts are you?
Is Jonny not first in the queue though I know he's been wanting to do this for a while? See what he says and let me know.
