Planning this summer's trip - good ideas welcomed

Post by paul&annie » Sun Jan 31, 2016 12:27 pm

Hi all,
We did our first trip to the continent in our bongo last summer, spending 2 weeks in Holland and loved every minute of it. Great place to take a bongo, perfect for bikes, very pretty towns, islands with good beaches, great national park and efteling is a fantastic place for kids and adults. From a practical point of view, campsites are very good quality, there wasn't a lot of traffic and distances are very small so kept down fuel bills.
We are now looking for somewhere this year, options are;
Denmark - would need ferry to Amsterdam and fairly long drive but people rave about the country.
Belgium - small and easy to get to like Holland but unsure how much there is to see & do.
Italy - would need to use motorail but appears that Bongos are not welcome on the train?
Northern Spain - long ferry (and for us long journey to the ferry)

I have left out France because we spent 5 years holidaying in various parts before we got our bongo. Love the place but want to explore somewhere different.

We are a family of 4 plus bongo, 2 kids both 10, love cycling, being outdoors, beaches, national parks and the odd amusement park. Prefer small towns to cities but won't avoid cities with stuff worth seeing (Copenhagen is a big draw for Denmark).

Would love to hear other peoples experiences including other places I haven't mentioned. I'm not trying to get others to do our planning for us, just want to get some ideas before we start planning in more detail. Particularly interested on peoples experience with the motorail.

Look forward to hearing your suggestions / experiences.

Northern Spain http://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/view ... 37&t=67347 :wink:

If we went again we'd miss France too but there were places we wanted to see in France that are now off our list.

By the time we got to that part of Spain we were well into the trip and could have done with a bit more time, especially to do the Picos.

Research is key. We'd wild-camp again for sure and pack as much in as we did then :wink:
