Paper counterpart of licence and going abroad ...

Post by g8dhe » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:42 pm

The end of the paper counterpart is nigh!
Whilst your planning on driving your Bongo abroad, were the worst to happen and you needed to hire a vehicle, you might be wise to make a note of how to access the web page to enable others to check your licence situation, without this you might not be able to hire anything..... access is limited for 72 Hours, so its no good getting one before you go you can bet if needed it will be during the 73'rd hour, so bookmark it in your browser for when your away!

I'm sure that this issue will get resolved in due course if hire companies want business.

Don't worry the private sector are already looking to fill the gap in Government services.

http://www.licencecheck.co.uk

It's mainly aimed at companies that need to know their driver's licences are valid and if there are any points on them.
But hire companies are looking to use the service as well, as a photocopy of just the photocard bit is now meaningless and doesn't prove much.

Hi
As far as I know, there isn't any facility for putting endorsements on a photocard licence over here...If you commit an offence that requires a ban, they merely take it from you.
One thing you might need to be aware of, is that if you drive in Greece and are banned from driving whilst there, they will remove your number plates and return them after the ban ceases...that also applies to foreigners (according to our builder, who lived in Greece)....darned good idea!....
Cheers

Or your other driver goes straight back to them and says "I'd like MY plates back please - I haven't been banned."

Hi
Frankly, I suspect it's a con to grab money...I bet the B*****s charge to take them off and put them on....Greeks, and other far-flung areas of the EU don't like paying taxes, and I suspect fines are one legitimate source of income.
Cheers
