Tackeroo 2018

Post by Muzorewa » Fri Feb 09, 2018 11:47 am

Just gauging interest for another adventure to the Tackeroo Campsite in Cannock Chase in Staffordshire.

They appear to have more available weekends than last year but still not many. Of the ones we could do, we’d be looking for the weekends of:

1st April
8th April
15th April
13th May

27th May
3rd June
17th June
4th November

Of those, 1st April is Easter weekend and 27th May is a bank-holiday weekend so I would suggest one of the weekends above highlighted in red only. If people can respond with any preferred dates, we’ll take a stab at a plan from there!

All welcome, campers and day-visitors. Postcode for the campsite is WS15 2UA although that's not entirely accurate, use 52.745157, -2.000030 in your SatNag if you're using one.

For those who haven't been before, it's a very basic site, beautiful but very basic, with water taps and an Elsan disposal point but no toilets - you need to be self-sufficient in that department. For day-visitors there's the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre at WS12 4PW and Birches Valley Forest Centre at WS15 2UQ, both reasonably close with appropriate facilities

Some photos from previous meetings so you know what you're letting yourselves in for

2009
2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
2015
2016
2017

For those of you thinking of taking bikes, there are details of the various leisure trails here - http://www.chasetrails.co.uk/leisure-cycling/

and cross-country trails here - http://www.chasetrails.co.uk/xc/

and downhill trails here - http://www.chasetrails.co.uk/downhill/

and trail maps here - http://www.chasetrails.co.uk/maps/

Muz Jr recommends against the Monkey Trail unless you really know what you're doing but the various trails are marked out with coloured way-markers along the routes so they're easy enough to follow

Sorry to say, but looks like I'm busy on all those dates.
Will pass onto Linda.
Thanks for looking into it. Muz.

Looks like it's either the weekend of 15th April or 4th November. The November date would suit us best but we could do either - Can you check with Bertie & Ernie at the weekend which they prefer, assuming they are free then, and we'll get some firm plans made.

I can't but I'm sure someone will who's going to Dent!

Ok then, I'm proposing doing both favoured weekends this year then, so that's the weekends of 15th April and 4th November. The first one is coming up in a couple of weeks so get your camping kit dusted off if you haven't yet used it this year!

Tell Bert & Ernie to fear not, there will be sausages. And Spam :D

And maybe some of those special Scottish meat pies with more than your weekly allowance of salt dusted on the outside

Yep, no booking or anything, just turn up and the ranger collects the money at some point during the weekend. It's about a tenner a night per van.

Ah i remember now people packing up early to avoid the ranger
Think our communal event this time is, make something from what you can find in the woods.
