Welsh Bash 2014 (Location of)

Post by Ian » Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:32 pm

We have a date, Friday 25th to Sunday 27th April, which is the weekend after Easter. And we know the area we want to hold it (Glamorgan or Pembrokeshire). But what we are undecided about is the campsite as they all have pros and cons.

Our first choice is this one on the cost at Port Eynon, Gower. http://www.carreglwyd.com/. It looks like an excellent site but it's a bit pricey. The standard rate is £25 per night with an electric hook up, but we can probably get a discounted rate for a block booking. But it's still likely to be £20 per night which some people may find a bit steep.

Our second choice is the Haven Holidays Kiln Park site at Tenby, http://www.haven.com/parks/south-wales/kiln-park/. We don't know the rate per night, but it's also likely to be expensive. It's a big site in an excellent location, but I suspect it may be a bit "impersonal" for one of our meets as many of the pitches are in hedged cul-de-sacs.

Our third choice is Acorn Camping at Llantwit Major http://www.acorncamping.co.uk/. This is far more reasonably priced (about £16.50 per night) but the site can get muddy after prolonged rain.

We would be grateful for your input.

Just had a few days in Tenby, great place, but I agree that Haven's aren't ideal for us. Won't get Mrs B to one.

Third site looks perfect, and better priced. 4wd Bongos care naught for a little mud. 8)

Edit: very close to the Museum of Welsh Life:

Fantastic and FREE. :D

Not a fan of Haven sites at the best of times. A good scenario is good walking from the site and pubs within walking distance. What more do you want?

Not sure where Llantwit Major is

8) I've stayed at this one Ian, lovely site, also has a path which takes you along the coast into Tenby

For a block booking you may get it down to an even more acceptable rate.
Just another idea for you :D
cheers! party on dudes.

I know this might be too late but I know of somewhere else in the St Davids area of Pembrokeshire that might be a great venue.

This has been booked for the site at Port Eynon. We got an exceptionally good deal. More details to follow.

I've also booked a Welsh Bash for 2015, which will be held just north of Barmouth.

Because only 12 people voted (out of 3,900 possibles) and Tenby would not give us a deal for the required dates. So I had to make a snap decision.

I'll take the blame if it goes tits up.

In Ian's defence, I wouldn't say a two month window was little time to vote?

We've not ventured to the Welsh bash before, but reckon we'll have a go for 2014.
