So sorry to hear the news Ian. I'm sure we're all thinking of you both at this time.Ian wrote:Here's the contents of email just sent to attenders. I'm afraid Marianne's dad's situation is entering a critical phase:
Dear Bongonauts,
We hope you get this message in time!
Unfortunately, due to a family crisis, Marianne and myself are unable to attend this weekend's "Tough Northerners" meeting. This means that the planned walk on Saturday, and the snooker competition, will not go ahead (unless someone else wants to organise them!).
Everything else will still take place though (snow permitting!), and Anne Buller ("Hotpot" on the Forum) will be on hand as the official Bongo Fury club contact.
Sorry to have missed you, but hopefully see you at the next one.
Good luck on your mission.
Sorry too now you're stuck with me
Bits of info that may interest:
- People who may be turning up later, reception will usually close before 6, so as welcome pack says report to reception to check in if it's open. Otherwise my mobile is 07707781615 if you want to phone/text and I'll do my best to direct you to the field.
- May still be able to do the walk to Clitheroe on Saturday if there's enough interest. Any takers on the snooker competition?
- Three Rivers pool is indoor, when I was last there there was a charge for using the pool. For Muzette who is hardcore there is a fishing pond that will be good for the bog snorkelling contest in the evening
- Clitheroe market on Saturday is worth a visit, the hotpots and burgers are very nice.
- Supermarkets/shopping, site has a small shop sells a few basics. Clitheroe has best selection, Tesco, Sainsburys, Booths, Lidls.
Safe journey everyone, hoping the weather stays ok, looking like light snow on Saturday now. It's been very cold tonight and a bit windy so will be packing the vest (no bikini Ady )

Sorry to read of your news Ian and Marrianne. Family first as they say.
If I can help Anne in any way during the weekend then count me in. Won't be ther until the early evening, but the offer is there for you.
Keep strong.

I've just spoken to our secret agent at the site, Lone Ranger, and he informs me that there is light snow at the site but all the local roads are open.
However, there is considerable disruption on the Motorways and trunk roads this morning due to snow so please take care out there!

Having just spoken to reception, and taking into account the weather warnings,Neil doesnt fancy towing the caravan,so we wont be there today, will come for a 1 nighter tomorrow if theres any improvement on the roads.

Update from Hotpot on site:
"Steady snow, but doesn't appear to be settling".
Update from Ian in Sheffield:
"Can't even get to the end of my road due to blizzard conditions".

Wind's picking up a bit here stopped snowing now though
More importantly the pub is open at 5.30pm, less importantly the hotpot is ready at 6

Hope you guys manage to keep warm and snuggy despite the weather. Brrrrr.
And watch out for those winds if you are raising your roof.
And be VERY careful about wet snow building up on tents/awnings and collapsing them. I can remember a Bongo meet in N Yorks in April where some awnings collapsed under the weight of it, wrecking the awning poles. And if someone had been inside it could have been more serious (same goes for weight of snow on AFT roofs I suspect, and I seem to recall someone breaking their AFT under just such conditions)
Good luck chaps
