2.0l Petrol Running Too Rich

Post by fatdaz » Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:12 pm

Hi all

I have an X-plate 2.0l petrol which will barely run because there is way too much petrol in the mix. My local mechanic is not an import specialist and doesn't have the right diagnostic kit and wiring diagrams etc. They've tried and can't fix the problem - they've tried replacing the lambda sensor and have replaced something in the distributor based on a recommendation but neither has fixed it and we don't want to just throw parts at it without knowing what is wrong.

I'm in Solihull in the West Midlands, do you know of Bongo Specialists local? JAL aren't interested in the work and I have emailed New Dawn and I'm waiting for a reply, does anyone know of any other specialists local to the West Midlands ? If it came to it I'd happily pay someone to advise my mechanic over the phone if it led to us working out what the issue is

Thanks

Worth bearing in mind that JAL (Phil) is an importer, and New Dawn do conversions, neither are garages and they are not mechanics, so can't take on repair work.

Ian Taylor, Stoke, might be worth a try.

Yep, I'm not pointing fingers at JAL (and I'm not hopeful about New Dawn wanting/needing the work either), I just highlighted that I've already reached out to those 2 so that people didn't come back and recommend I try them

Have you checked air intake / filter isn’t blocked or come disconnected? Mice love to nest in the filter box (trust me I know :( )

This forum search for 'West Midlands' has brought up several garages that others have recommended. One of them might be able to help you. search.php?keywords=West+%2Bmidlands&te ... mit=Search
Allan's closed. in Plymouth we recommend PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services

Did you get anywhere with this? Currently in same situation 2L petrol/LPG. Running very rich. Failed mot emissions with CO at 9.99. Changed Lambda but had no affect. Lambda still reading low on emissions too.
