Replacing Gear Face Display Strip

Post by nonw » Thu Oct 07, 2021 10:44 am

Hi everyone.

Just bought a 1996 Bongo!

The gear face display strip has smashed into a few pieces (image shown).

I've found a replacement strip on the MazdaBongo.com website for £11.94. Could someone please explain to me how to replace it?

Thank you very much! :) :D

Remove the console cover (grey surround) then some find its possible to unclip the stick surround 4 clips and lift it up the selector the old one will just drop out, the new one needs to be feed in from the end between some plastic "bumps" in the moulding which hold it to the top, this can be awkward to achieve but it is possible.
Otherwise its a case of removing the switch and mechanical mechanism on the top of the selector to remove the entire surround from the top of the selector taking it off is easy - putting the switch and the button mechanism back together can be a right PAIN!!!
