Burping bongo
Hi Team,
Recently had an issue with my bongo overheating, thankfully identified as a leaking pipe going over the starter motor.
Since then I have noticed that the temperature gauge will creep up, and sometimes go near to high, then go back down to near-normal at the C end of the meter. The bongo makes some 'gurgling' noise which I think is air being released.
I know that they refilled the coolant as I had put standard tap water as an emergency in previously, do you think its not been bled properly, or is it something else ??
Kind Regards,
Al.ze

Sounds like an airlock in the system. It needs bleeding again. See the "Bleeding Bongos" video on YouTube

Re: Burping bongo
Which engine type do you have ?
If its diesel then make sure it gets bled well, V6 is not quite so bad and the 2l is self bleeding but even so it needs the worst of the air to be removed before topping it up adequately!

Re: Burping bongo
Hi Alan, often down Poole way my son (2E1GHZ) is down there, do have 2m and 70cms in the van but not very active these days.
Re: Burping bongo
My 2M/70cm mast is not up at the moment (40ft) in IO90BS, but I'm usually monitoring. Tend to use the GB3IW repeater with its fantastic south coast coverage, and Mere when IW gets too busy !
To keep to Bongo-thread friendly I do enjoy very much going to the New Forest in the Bongo with my radio(s). Not got a perm one in the Bongo yet, thinking to put a 10M / 11 switchable one in there - have had 11m radio in there before was good fun on one of the previous commutes I had between Bournemouth and Romsey - plenty of activity.
Will be lovely to meet or have a QSO - your baloon work looks very exciting !!
Thanks again for the advice on the Bongo - i missed it so much for the week it was in the garage, it really is well loved by me and my good lady (XYL).

Re: Burping bongo
Yup the HAB activities are quite fun, although they have slowed down quite a bit in the UK for the last couple of years!
Nearly first thing I did was re-install the radio in the new vehicle IC-2800H,

Hi All,
Pleased to reporting that following the video resulted in the temp staying rock-solid on Low, appreciate all the videos and input on here.
And nice to meet a fellow amateur radio operator - hopefully our bongos and log-books will be in touch some day.
Kind Regards,
Alan

Re: Burping bongo
Funny thread now
I dont have a perm setup in my Bongo yet for a radio. Will investigate over the winter.
Here is the video of operation from the New Forest from the Bongo !
Was great fun to get away from the interference of the home.

I'll have to search the forum for any tips on setting up a radio in a bongo for grounding - i was going to try a plate to the roof but decided against that in the end. Have tried a gutter mount with some sucssess, but was only measuring S.W.R. readings - whats the capacitance and resonance of a mazda bongo hahah
I'd be interested in swapping out the antenna on the side with a 2m/70 type of whip - any of my fellow hams done that ?
