Electronics

Post by Jaydee3 » Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:00 pm

Hi,

Would anyone happen to know what this box does? It’s situated underneath the dash, behind the centre console. There is a number of wires that come out of the back that lead to circuit board and connector that plugs into the stereo plug. Hopefully the photos will explain further. Many thanks.

I just posted that the pics didn't download, then they did so I deleted the post.

Nothing helpful, I'm afraid.

Hopefully Geoff will be along. 8)

Rather difficult to say! That area quite often has odd third party boxes stuffed in there, unless you can get to see the marking on the box and google them it could be anything, the only thing normally in that area but its firmly bolted down is the Air Bag control module with the accelerometer sensor in it. Can you get any photo's of the labels/markings on the unit.

Thanks for your response Geoff. I’ve attached more photos. I’ve tried googling the markings but nothing. The unit has a cable that comes out of it that leads to the stereo area. It appears that the stereo male connector plugs into a female connector, the one with the circuit board attached to the bottom which feeds a male connector the same as the stereo. The wires have at some point been altered to incorporate new connections for an aftermarket stereo. Hope that makes sense. Could it be the phone kit, as seen in the photos? Many thanks.

Well if it originally connected to the old Jap stereo it won't be in use with anything you replace it with so best removed its not original equipment.

Many thanks for your help Geoff. I’ve found the attached in an auction. It appears it is something to do with a navigation system perhaps.

Are you sure your van has airbags? That's where the airbag box would normally be, it's mounted on a metal plate with yellow connectors and a warning label.
It is something to do with the radio, it's either satnav or a tracker.
