Kinloss Garage Timing belt

Post by Shebnpep » Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:01 pm

Hi all,
Dropped Garfied (V6 2.5 Petrol Auto) off to the Kinloss Garage today for the timing belt change. After guidance from the collective, provided them with a timing kit, hydraulic tensioner, Water pump, cam seals and a crank seal. They said the cams seals and crank seal would require some additional hours to put these on, as not part of the timing belt strip down. So will keep these for a later requirement. So far they have added two other belts to the list and hopefully these did need replacement. As I am not mechanically minded, hoping there are no more surprises.
They have estimated 8 hours to do all the above except the cam and crank seals.
Does this seam reasonable?

I would strongly advise you to have the seals done at the same time, I dont understand why your garage did not tell you that. You could end up paying twice .

As you can see there is not a lot involved to changing the seals at this stage.

Concur on have all the work done at the front, a lot of those 8 hours will be simply gaining access, the cost of parts is minimal compared to the time accessing the front of the engine, so you will incur twice those costs if you leave the seals to another date!

Thanks guys and again appreciate your guidance.
Since your posts earlier, they have completed the work. Final checks and test drive tomorrow. So am eager to get Garfield back home and prepped for holiday round Scotland.
Cheers
