Glow plug light flashing
I know there is a factsheets for this, but the light seems to just go on and off, no sequence. Doesn’t seem to impact of performance either.
It’s a 2001 2.5 Diesel.

Re: Glow plug light flashing
Until you follow the instructions the light simply flashes, once you put the link in then the error code is displayed depending on age of ECU either the added light or the dashboard light.
Re: Glow plug light flashing
My Bongo is a post 99... the factsheet doesn’t give any instructions regarding a ‘link’, it just says it will flash a sequence?
Re: Glow plug light flashing
Just seen the second factsheet in diagnostics... why the couldn’t just have it flash the code straight away!!

Re: Glow plug light flashing
You missed the line that says "Install a jump lead connection as shown in the diagram below" then!
Re: Glow plug light flashing
Ha, no I did see that, but that stated for vehicles ‘up to September 99’... mine is 2001, so discounted it!
I am going to try to get the code reading with a jumper wire. Just to confirm, connecting TEN and GND to make the link, should result in the coil light flashing the code? Or do I need to connect a bulb even though my is a newer model?

As per these instructions...

Re: Glow plug light flashing
The exact date version that the change occurs is not clear, its the date they ran out of the old ECU's and started on the new batch! Its like most things on a production line the exact point in time varies, as to when the old stock runs out, so different items within a revision don't always coincide!
Re: Glow plug light flashing
Connecting TEN and GND results in the coil light flashing codes:
1114- Intake air temperature 2 circuit low input
1402- Exhaust gas recirculation metering orifice restricted
1228- Wastegate failed open (under pressure)
I have no idea what any of that means...

Turbo problems. Probably vanes in the wastegate sooted up. See the "Wastegate" fact sheet in the members area.
668. The Neighbour of The Beast.
Re: Glow plug light flashing
Might be worth looking at giving the EGR a clean too.

Update...
Managed to get the Bongo booked into Bongospares. That was a relief, somebody who knows what they are doing. I dropped it off this afternoon. Had a chat with George who said the ‘newer’ diesel Bongo’s are a nightmare to diagnose from ECU faults. Not all faults have a fault code recorded on the system and it could be literally anything. A case of working through it, trial and error. He did mention it could be a £1500 repair and that it often comes down to the, not sure if he said, diesel fuel injector pump??? Injectors??? But it was something like that anyway? (my brain shut down at hearing £1500).
Anyway, let’s see what they come back with... update to follow...

Problem solved...
2 mechanics at Bongospares and 4 hours fault finding and the problem has been solved. Turns out the turbo actuator has been sticking. This also confirms my concerns from a previous thread about limited power uphill and engine running hot. I just put it down to being a ‘Bongo thing’ and my own paranoia, but it was actually also due to this as the engine was having to work so hard!
It’s obviously been like this for some time, but I haven’t noticed until driving it away from the garage and REALLY seeing the massive difference in power and no more twitchy bum engine temperatures!
Happy days!
