Replacement Head Unit Question

Post by DarthOps » Thu May 06, 2021 8:51 pm

Hi all,

Glad to be here, I'm the proud owner of a 2.5 V6 Bongo and was looking for some advice. I'm a bit of a tech geek but don't know much about car electronics so I'm in need of some help!

The previous owner had fitted this Pioneer head unit to the vehicle (Pioneer FH-X840DAB):

and the connectors look like this :

I'm currently looking at switching it to a Pioneer android auto headset, namely the SPH-DA250DAB:

https://ibb.co/zswxGnh

where the rear connectors look like this :

The only significant difference I can see is the number pins on the main connector. Does this mean I'll require a different adapter than the one already fitted or would it be a straight swap?

Thanks for your help!

That looks to be a custom Pioneer standard connector rather than the usual ISO standard, so you will either need a Mazda to Pioneer adaptor, or convert from Mazda to ISO and the from ISO to Pioneer assuming that is available!

There are two types of Mazda to ISO adaptor depending on year;
from 1995 to around 2000/2001 it is PC2-10-4,
after 2000/2001 it becomes a PC2-78-4

both types are available on ebay,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=+PC2-10-4
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=+PC2-78-4

You will have to search for a reverse ISO to Pioneer I guess!

Thanks very much for the info.

Was just having a read about the handbrake switch and I think this may quickly become a job too big for me to be confident in doing!
