100w H4 Headlights?

Post by forbescoleman » Tue Mar 30, 2021 9:54 am

Hey guys

I'm looking to swap the current H4 bulbs for something that will actually light up the road...

I'm looking at these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H4-Xenon-Led ... 3188056691

Now, it says in the notes that if you've not put 100w bulbs in before, you should replace the wiring looms?! Will I blow up my 2002 Freda if I put these bulbs in? (I already have blue-tint 501 LEDs, so it's just the H4s)

LED's will fail MoT also the reflectors are NOT designed for LED so will have the wrong pattern.
Have you tried Night Breakers these are legal and more than adequate. https://www.google.com/search?q=h4+night+breaker

Thanks for this.

The H4s in the listing are not actually LED, as per the description. They’re just 100w halogen.

Also, LEDs don’t automatically fail an MOT. I had an old C3 that I fitted LED H7 & H1 in to and it passed the MOT.

I currently have Night Breakers in my Peugeot 2008 and I’m not overly impressed 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really want to know if the 100w strength will fry the electrics?

More likely melt the plastic lenses then at 100 Watts, I was assuming this was a LED luminance equivalent rather than a genuine rating!
Too be honest any misleading advert like that immediately puts me on alert, mixing up terms and exceeding the ratings are not a good idea.
No LED that fits in a filament socket is ever going to have a CE mark and hence should fail MoT.

Fitting a HID kit may be a better solution, it can be quickly put back to halogen for the MOT, putting the HID's back in after.
With regards to LED side light bulbs, mine's always had these fitted and will usually get an advisory, purely because of the colour.

Interesting as side lights aren’t a fail if they don’t work. My car doesn’t even have them, just DRLs (which my Freda has had retro fitted)
