Stiff Steering when turning Diesel manual Transmission Bongo

Post by Jiujitero » Tue Jan 26, 2021 9:07 pm

Hi everyone, hoping someone can shed some light. I have a 1995 Diesel / Manual Transmission Bongo, where recently and randomly the steering wheel gets very stiff on some turns and then goes back to normal (the engine is always running). My initial thought was that the power steering fluid could be low, but looked everywhere, including previous posts with pictures - which make it look obvious - (also lifted the drivers seat, etc) and I can see the engine oil reservoir, but CANNOT see any power steering fluid reservoir. So my questions is, do the 1996 Diesel Manual transmission Bongos have power steering and if so where is the reservoir and dipstick located? Or any ideas on how to fix the problem I am having. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure all Bongos have power steering, and the reservoir is under the driver's seat.

The only reservoir for engine oil is the sump, filler has yellow cap under passenger seat.

Check the two universal joints on the steering column one inside and one outside the firewall, they frequently need a clean and grease.

Thank you Bob and Geoff for your replies. Will check on the universal joints and will continue to try to find the power steering reservoir. Am I looking in the wrong place? Please see pic.

Hi Rita, thanks for your reply. I had googled it too and if you look at the picture I posted there is no power steering bottle so I am completely baffled on this one

If you look at the pictures you will see the reservoir pin pointed , its quite obvious and its on the drivers side not the passengers side .

Thank you all, and I apologise for the novice mistake. I kept looking under the passengers seat. Novice mistake  . The reservoir is almost at full so will look into the two universal joints. Cheers

Great answer....immediate fix when sprayed with WD-40
