Power steering issues

Post by Shak130 » Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:01 pm

Hi All,

Given the recent weather i have had some great fun in the bongo! 4 wheel drifting and dognuts 🤪 all in a private car park of course. Unfortunatley my power steering is now playing up

At idle stationary i have no power steering. When i rev it to 1500rpm power steering works. Its parked up atm but is my daily so i really need some help please..

I have checked the belt and fluids all ok. I have oiled the uj in the steering arm...

How do i determine if its a steering pump or rack issue?

Its a n reg diesel

Help advice would be appreciated

The fact that it works at higher revs might suggest that the pump is having a problem, rather than the rack itself assuming there are no leaks ?

Your best bet is to check the actual PS fluid pressure, there is a relief /bypass valve on the pump it could be sticking .Please leave the dognut alone.
