4wd light and accelerator

Post by imwavygravy » Wed Oct 21, 2020 2:35 pm

Hi all, I hope you can help.
Apart from many loved bongo seemingly trying to destroy itself, I have an issue with the 4WD light.
It comes on when the accelerator is pressed.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Hi

I'm not sure which light you mean, there isn't a 4 WD light on the Bongo Friendee as the system is automatic.

Maybe a picture, if possible, please?

Thank you for your reply
I have a 2.5td 1996 auto bongo and there's an ABS/4WD light on the dash. It only comes on when I press the accelerator pedal. It only started yesterday.
I don't even have to be driving.
I hope that's clarifies things.

That's the ABS light reporting a fault, most often a faulty sensor but you need to read the diagnostics port out for the error code to know exactly and which sensor if that is the problem. See here if its an early vehicle http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm

Sorry if this is a daft reply, but I wasn't aware that the 1996 Bongo had a diagnostic port. Any ideas where it may be?
Thanks again.

Pretty sure it doesn't, or at least, not a new type Obiwan Kinobe thingy.

You need to count the sequence of flashes, but Geoff's your man.

Lift the cover and note the way it is mounted upside down compared the instructions on the link I gave.

Just to update. I tried to start my van one morning and it just wouldn't start. The batteries were dead. So after a little digging and getting my friend to jump start it. I put a voltmeter to the battery and found that the alternator was over charging my batteries. Two new batteries later and a new alternator...it drives like a new van ... apart from the coolant leak.

Again, thank you for your help.
